What are Lavender Buds?

Lavender buds are the dried flowering tops of Lavandula angustifolia. The buds are gently dried after harvest to preserve their color, scent, and active ingredients.

The scent is classic lavender: floral, fresh-spicy, and lightly sweet, with a hint of woodiness. On the skin, this feels like tranquility: less tension, a fresher feel, and a moment of zen in the shower or bath.

Use the buds for DIY: make a sachet, bath salt, or an oil macerate as a base for a gentle facial oil or body oil.

What are the benefits of Lavender Buds?

A moment of tranquility
The scent contains linalool and linalyl acetate, the same compounds found in lavender oil. A sniff in the bath or in a steam bath brings tranquility after a busy day.

Soothes sensitive skin
A lukewarm infusion as a compress or facial steam helps soothe the skin. The mild scent and plant compounds make the skin feel less tense.

Fresh without a tight feeling
Warm steam with lavender buds loosens the pores and removes surface dirt. The skin feels fresh, not tight.

A fine base for your own oil
Buds infused in oil release scent and antioxidants into the oil. This way, you make a gentle facial or body oil that absorbs pleasantly.

Scent in the home
In a linen sachet or potpourri, the buds keep your closet and bedroom fresh. Rubbing them between your fingers briefly awakens the scent.

Gentle in bath and scrub
With bath salt or a sugar scrub, the buds add color and a subtle scent, and they feel gentle on the skin.

How do you use Lavender Buds?

Facial steam: 1 tablespoon of buds per 250 ml of hot water. Steam for 5–10 minutes at arm's length. Lovely as a fresh start or end to the day.

Compress or toner infusion: 1 tablespoon per 200 ml of hot water, steep for 10–15 minutes and let cool. Use as a compress or as a simple toner within 2–3 days, or preserve according to your recipe.

Bath: 1–2 tablespoons in a reusable tea bag or muslin. Hang in the stream of the warm bathwater, so there are no loose leaves in the drain.

DIY bath salt or scrub: 1 teaspoon of finely chopped buds per 100 g of salt or scrub. Mix at the end, store cool and dry.

Oil macerate: 1 part buds to 5–10 parts carrier oil. Steep for 2–4 weeks at room temperature, or 1–3 hours in a water bath on low heat (max. 40–50°C), then strain. Use this macerate as 10–100% of the oil phase in your recipe, adding it in the oil phase.

Sachet: fill a linen sachet and knead it briefly before use to release the scent. Place in a drawer, wardrobe, or under your pillow.

Tip for essential oil: if you use lavender essential oil, dose a maximum of 1% and never apply undiluted to the skin.

What makes Lavender Buds so special?

The scent is contained in microscopically small glandular hairs on the calyx. Crushing or heating them briefly opens those hairs and immediately releases a full lavender scent, so even a small amount of buds smells strong and clear.

TIP: If you are looking for a fun DIY project, make your own bath bombs with citric acid and baking soda and decorate them with dried lavender. View the recipe here!
